ABSTRACT:
This high impact presentation by Fred Hebbel, CTO of SYSNETICS, offers an indepth insight into major new revisions to CORBA which are currently underway at the OMG. Future specifications which will be forthcoming, will greatly enhance the robustness of CORBA and its ability to be applied as an "industrial strength" solution to distributed computing problems in the years ahead. Specific future directions of CORBA which are examined in this presentation are as follows:
- Persistent State Service (replaces Persistent Object Service V1.0)
- Passing Objects by Value
- Portable Object Adapters
- Messaging Service
A practical perspective is offered on how these enhancements are likely to affect system design decisions for those evaluating or currently developing with CORBA. Specific examples are used to illustrate key points from an application development standpoint. An overview of CORBA and the OMG is also presented for those who are unfamiliar with this aspect of distributed computing.
